RCDN Invests in Building Training Expertise through Generic ToT in Tirana

The Regional Capacity Development Network (RCDN) held a successful Generic Training of Trainers (GToT) from 24-27 September 2024 in Tirana, Albania, focusing on strengthening the internal capacities of partner associations. This milestone event reinforced RCDN’s commitment to transferring knowledge and fostering sustainable development within the water and sanitation sector of the Western Balkans.

A Landmark Event: Delivery by Master Trainers on Local Languages

For the first time, the RCDN GToT was delivered entirely in local languages by RCDN+ Master Trainers. This approach ensured deeper engagement and better comprehension among participants, demonstrating RCDN’s investment in localized capacity development.

Empowering Future Trainers through Methodological Excellence

The training aimed to enhance participants’ methodological skills for delivering high-quality training based on RCDN’s established Quality Standards. The program gathered 40 participants from public utility companies (PUCs) and local government units (LGUs), supported by experienced trainers from the region.

Key learning outcomes included:

  • Enhanced training delivery skills through adult learning principles.
  • Practical application of interactive methods such as role-play, group exercises, and facilitation techniques.
  • Development of personalized training designs aligned with RCDN standards.

Training Three Distinct Groups of Trainers

The program effectively trained three distinct groups of trainers, covering various aspects of training delivery. Each group participated in tailored sessions designed to meet their specific development needs, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience.

Strategic Investment in Capacity Building

This training is part of RCDN+ initiative to establish a strong pool of trainers. By empowering local trainers, RCDN ensures long-term sustainability and localized capacity development. This investment in human resources equips associations with in-house expertise, reducing dependency on external consultants.

Testimonials: “The training allowed us to advance professionally and learn through real-life scenarios. We are now more confident to train future trainers and implement RCDN’s Quality Standards in our associations.”

Next Steps and Continued Support

Following the GToT, participants will be engaged in upcoming national training programs as trainers, co-trainers and mentors. Their roles will be critical in scaling capacity-development efforts and institutionalizing the transfer of knowledge across the region.

Looking Ahead: RCDN remains committed to investing in local expertise, ensuring the water and sanitation sector in the Western Balkans is equipped with capable trainers ready to lead future development initiatives.
