On 20 May 2025, RCDN+ partners met online to exchange on the newly developed Data & Database Management Framework (DMF), designed to help associations make evidence-based decisions, improve member services, and strengthen policy advocacy.
The exchange aimed to strengthen partners’ understanding of data management practices and explore how they can be applied to improve service delivery, policy advocacy, and member engagement.
The DMF, developed by Deloitte, is grounded in the DAMA-DMBOK methodology and provides a step-by-step guide for managing data throughout its lifecycle ensuring that data is accurate, accessible, secure, and useful for decision-making. The DMF was developed following an assessment of data availability and needs within RCDN+ partner associations.
Why Data Management Matters for Associations?
As highlighted in the presentation and in the DMF, data is a strategic asset for associations. Properly managed data builds trust among members through transparency, supports evidence-based advocacy with solid facts, and improves internal efficiency by reducing redundancies and streamlining operations.
Sharing Experiences and Lessons Learned
During the exchange, Alban Kushi from SHUKALB shared lessons from implementing CiviCRM, stressing the importance of early team involvement, aligning tools with real needs, and gradual staff training. Other participants also presented their ongoing data management and digitalization efforts.
Next Steps
RCDN+ partners are now encouraged to reflect on how the Framework fits into their ongoing and planned activities and identify areas where additional support would be helpful. RCDN will provide tailored technical assistance, peer learning opportunities, and integration of data management topics into future capacity development activities.
As data becomes an increasingly important resource, this exchange marked a crucial step towards helping associations across the Western Balkans become more credible, evidence-driven, and responsive to their members’ needs.
