SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF FIRST TRAINING IN THE SECOND CYCLE OF THE NRW PROGRAM

The Regional Capacity Development Network (RCDN) is pleased to announce the successful completion of the first training session in the second cycle of the Non-Revenue Water (NRW) program. This session took place at Hotel Aurel in Podgorica, Montenegro, from June 27 to 28, 2024. The training, a continuation of the D-Leap initiative, reflects RCDN’s ongoing commitment to addressing the significant challenges posed by non-revenue water in Montenegro’s water utility systems.

Background and Objectives

Montenegro’s water utility systems face a critical challenge with high levels of water losses. Recognizing the urgency of this issue, the Association of Water Utilities of Montenegro, supported by RCDN and the D-Leap initiative, has established a bi-annual NRW program. This program aims to provide comprehensive training through three phases (theoretical and practical), ensuring participants complete tasks under the continuous guidance of trainers. The ultimate goal is to improve the efficiency and sustainability of water services by enhancing the capacity of water utilities to manage non-revenue water effectively.

Program Focus

The NRW program is designed primarily for employees in water utilities dealing with non-revenue water management. It also targets decision-makers from water utilities and local government units, emphasizing the importance of reducing water losses and their role in effective non-revenue water management.

The main objectives of the program include:

  • Enhancing Knowledge and Skills: Through presentations and real-world examples, the program aims to expand participants’ knowledge and develop their skills in the technical aspects of non-revenue water management.
  • Increasing Awareness: The program seeks to raise awareness about the benefits of a systematic approach to reducing non-revenue water.
  • Fostering Knowledge Exchange: By facilitating the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices among water utilities, the program supports networking and collaboration.

Training Details

The first training session in this cycle saw participation from water utilities in Podgorica, Herceg Novi, Danilovgrad, Kolašin, and Nikšić, with a total of nine representatives. Alongside the national trainer, additional support was provided by technical partners from “Una Consulting” in Bihać.

This training builds on the success of the previous D-Leap NRW program, which significantly improved non-revenue water management in water utilities. The continuation of this program underlines the commitment to maintaining and advancing these improvements, ensuring long-term benefits for Montenegro’s water utility sector.

Conclusion

The RCDN remains dedicated to supporting the development and implementation of effective non-revenue water management strategies. The positive outcomes of the first training session in this second cycle highlight the program’s ongoing impact and the value of sustained training and capacity-building efforts. With continued support and collaboration, the NRW program is poised to make significant strides in reducing water losses and enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of water services in Montenegro.
